The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in The Federal Republic of Nigeria
Ethiopia opened its Embassy in Lagos in 1961, just a year after the Independence of Nigeria. Following the Nigerian Government’s decision to transfer the administrative and political capital from Legos to Abuja, the Ethiopian Government acquired via a lease agreement signed on 17 August ,1990 and on 13 May, 1998 for 99 years 12 thousand square meters plot of land for building a Chancery and 2500 square meters plot of land to build ambassador’s residence, respectively. In recent years the two buildings have witnessed major rehabilitation and new construction works thanks to the significant budgetary capital injection of the Government of Ethiopia. The Chancery is majestically located along the Mission Road in Central District of Abuja.
The Chancery premise houses not only the various office rooms where the official functions are conducted but also the diplomatic and service staff accommodations, a beautiful cultural center and a gym Center, among others.
Currently the Embassy discharges its duties through seven dedicated units, namely, Political diplomacy, Business Diplomacy, Public diplomacy, Diaspora Affairs, Consular Affairs, Administrative unit and Finance Unit. In a nutshell, the Ethiopian Embassy in Nigeria is a diplomatic mission embarked on a sacred duty of strengthening the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Nigeria with focus on the aforesaid areas.
In addition to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Embassy is also accredited to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Togo, the Republic of Benin, and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.
